Valuable lessons to learn from the COVID-19 outbreak

“Every dark cloud has a silver lining” – making this is a reality, the Coronavirus has brought with it a wave of negative outcomes such as illness and death, but it also brings forth some valuable lessons for our lives.

 Hygiene habits

Cleanliness is very important even if one has or has not been infected.
It is characterized by frequent bathing and washing of hands. But nowadays, even though one is addicted to cleanliness, it is no longer adequate and must be extra cautious. . Engaging in the same thing frequently is a symptom of mental disorder  called  the Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)and in this case, it is not a disorder but a blessing! .Regular bathing, washing hands, using a handkerchief when coughing or sneezing, or using the elbow  to cover same have and should become a part of our daily routine.

Being frugal

Unnecessary spending is limited and money is spent only on essential items to survive during the curfew period. . Even those who couldn’t live without junk food like pizza and burgers have now become accustomed to healthy food such jack fruit and beans. Young children are also accustomed to eating food such as sweet potatoes and green grams which they rejected earlier. This time period has also helped us to appreciate local grown foods and be grateful for the little we have.

Maintaining social distance


This situation has taught us that we need not always hang out together to maintain relationships. Despite being unable to visit, we have now found time to connect via digital platforms and the good old telephone or mobile phones to maintain and create new friendships.

 Facebook, Viber, WhatsApp have enabled us to talk to and keep in touch with our loved ones even during the social distancing. There are even songs made to emphasize the importance of staying home such as the “stay at home” song by Flash Back, which goes to show the talents and creativity of our artists and how they use their talents for the betterment of the society.

Working from home is not an option anymore

During this time many people learned that their jobs were possible to do from home. Once the virus outbreak ends, it might be worth having a chat with your superiors about working from home possibilities whenever necessary and ensure that there is no disruption to the day to day operations of the business in any way. Most jobs have certain amount of work that can be done remotely and the outbreak has surfaced another option to promote work-life balance.

Knowing the value of our environment and surroundings


Many people are engaging in home gardening during this time period. The home gardening and cultivation has spread to the center of the society as a trend. Well-known personalities are at the root of this and it is common to see many people growing vegetables in their backyard as much as they can. This will enable us to grow fresh vegetables free of poison will save money and most importantly will give us a sense of accomplishment.

Learn to take a break from the hectic lifestyle

It’s so hard for some people to just be still and do nothing. Being alone, especially for extroverts can be exhausting and feel lonely. Social distancing can be very difficult, but it can also teach you a lot about yourself. You learn how to keep yourself busy. Eventually binge watching three seasons of a TV show won’t be enough anymore, and will have to try doing something else. Your body and mind is your home and you have to learn how to love it and live with it.


Understanding the value of the health service providers and the personnel at armed forces


The role of the health sector in the face of this pandemic is almost indescribable.

Today, the majority have come to appreciate the value of free health care in our country. They work to protect our lives by not only confining themselves to hospitals but also providing advice through various media to ensure our safety and prevent the spread of the virus.  I personally believe that they are truly Gods on earth!

And how can we forget the unbroken service of the Armed Forces? Establishment of Quarantine Centers throughout the country, Disinfecting public places and they also take good care of the corona infected. The individuals and direct them for treatment immediately. They have become guardian angels in our country by default.

Although this is a heart wrenching epidemic, it has also taught us valuable lessons. We are well aware of the value of lives, both ours and the others. Therefore, by contributing to proper health habits, we can contribute to the control of this pandemic. It will be useful for everyone to continue the good habits and the economic measures we have taken to survive during this pandemic.
